In My Life

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

The song of the week VI. Elton John: ‘Candle In The Wind’ (1973)

By Mª Teresa Palmerín. (full version of this article in PDF)

Elton John is an English singer, pianist and songwriter, who was born in London in 1947. His music covers a lots of different styles, as pop, rock, glam rock and piano rock.

The song Candle in the wind was composed by him and the poet and lyricist Bernie Taupin. It appeared in 1973, as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, who had dead in 1962. Later, in 1997, the same song was versioned to tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, and it had a greater success than the original version. In fact, this song is one of the most sold and famous songs in the history of recient music.

John publicly performed Candle in the Wind 1997 only once, at the funeral of Diana, in Westminster Abbey on 6 September 1997. However, he continued singing the first version of Candle in the wind in his concerts. John hasn’t wanted to sing 1997’s version, even for the memorial Concert for Diana in July 2007. He vowed never to perform it again unless asked by Diana’s sons. The song has never been released or included in an album.

1973´s song talks about Marilyn Monroe´s life as an actress was hard and pinful sometimes, and she was hounded by the press until the dy of her death. The song says that sometimes she was considered only as a sexual icon, too. However, the version dedicated to Princess Diana express the pain and sadness feeling of her country because of her death. Her country will always keep alive her memory.

Goodbye Norma Jean,
though I never knew you at all.
You had the grace to hold yourself
while those around you crawled.
They crawled out of the woodwork
and they whispered into your brain,
they set you on the treadmill
and they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind,
never knowing who to cling to
when the rain set in.
And I would have liked to have known you
but I was just a kid.
Your candle burned out long before,
your legend ever did.

Loneliness was tough,
the toughest role you ever played.
Hollywood created a superstar
and pain was the price you paid.
Even when you died
Oh!, the press still hounded you;
all the papers had to say
was that Marilyn was found in the nude.

Goodbye Norma Jean
from the young man in the 22nd row,
who sees you as something as more than sexual,
more than just our Marilyn Monroe.

The Song of The Week IV. Beyoncé: ‘Crazy In Love’ (2003)

Yes! so crazy right now
Most incredibly
It’s your girl b
It’s your boy young
History in the makin
Part 2

I look and stare so deep in your eyes
I touch on you more and more every time
When you leave I’m beggin you not to go
Call your name two, three times in a row
Such a funny thing for me to try to explain
How I’m feeling and my pride is the one to blame
Yeah, cause I know I don’t understand
Just how your love can do what no on else can

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love’s got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your love)
Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch’s
Got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your touch)
Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss’s
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love’s got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love

When I talk to my friends so quietly
“Who he think he is?” Look at what you’ve done to me
Tennis shoes don’t even need to buy a new dress
You ain’t there, ain’t nobody else to impress
It’s the way that you know what I thought I knew
It’s the beat that my heart skips when I’m with you
Yeah, but I still don’t understand
Just how your love can do what no one else can

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love’s got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your love)
Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch’s
Got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your touch)
Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss’s
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love’s got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love

I’m warmed up now
Let’s go

Young hova
Ya’ll know when the flow is loco
Young b and the r-o-c uh oh
O-g, big homie
The one and only
Stick boney but the pockets are fat like tony

Soprano the roc handle
Like van exel
I shake phonies man, you can’t get next to
A genuine article, I do not sing tho
I sling though , if anything I bling yo

Star like ringo
War like a green berret
You’re crazy bring your whole set
Jay-Z in the range
Crazy and deranged
They can’t figure him out
They’re like “hey is he insane?”

Yes sir I’m cut from a different cloth
My texture is the best fur, I’m chinchilla

I’ve been ill of the chain smokers
How you think I go the name hova
I’ve been reala’
The game’s over

Fall back young ever since
I made you change over to platinum
The game’s been a wrap
One

Got me looking so crazy, my baby
I’m not myself lately
I’m foolish, I don’t do this
I’ve been played myself
Baby I don’t care
Cuz your love got the best of me
And baby you’re making a fool of me
You got me sprung and I don’t care who sees
Cuz baby you got me so crazy

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love’s got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your love)
Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch’s
Got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your touch)
Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss’s
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love’s got me lookin
got me lookin so crazy your love

The Song of The Week II. Michael Jackson: ‘Billie Jean’ (1982)

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean – (Single Version) (Spotify)

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said I don’t mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round
She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
People always told me be careful what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
And mother always told me be careful of what you do ‘cause the lie becomes the truth
Billie Jean is not my lover
(Billie Jean no es mi amante)
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son (Pero el chico no es mi hijo)
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
For forty days and for forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she’s in demand
Her schemes and plans
‘Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)
She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
People always told me be careful of what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened way too soon
She called me to her room

The Song of the Week

.- 100 Tracks of the Decade (2000), NME.

Aztec Camera: Walk Out To Winter (1983)

Aztec Camera – Walk Out To Winter (Spotify)

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry
You’ll wonder why
We met in the summer and walked ‘til the fall
And breathless we talked, it was tongues.
Despite what they’ll say, it wasn’t youth, we hit the truth
Faces of Strummer that fell from your wall
And was left were they hung
So sweet and bitter, they’re what we found
So drink them down and
Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry
You’ll wonder why.
Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chance is buried just below the blinding snow.
You burn in the breadline and ribbons and all
So walk to winter
You won’t be late, you always wait
This generation, the walk to wall
But I’m not angry, get your gear
Get out of here and…
